Little Moments
Sometimes the biggest changes in our lives happen in very small moments.
For the last 33 years, I have attended 3 churches which are part of a worldwide network of churches. While we are not a denomination, we are a family, and the churches which are a part of our network share similar tenets of faith, the same spiritual DNA, and hold values in common. Being a part of this family has changed virtually everything in my life; my theology, my values, my worldview, my relationships, my geography, my destiny.
I trace it all back to one evening, looking through a friend's bookshelf. I had recently recommitted my life to God and was trying to understand the Bible and was studying anything I could get my hands on. He had a number of books by one particular author. I had never seen teaching like what I was looking at---it was as if someone had organized the Bible in a clear, easy to understand format--where the Bible was interpreting itself almost. All I knew is that I wanted to be wherever this book was being taught. The author was Kevin Connor and the book led me to Portland Bible College. I spent 4 years at PBC and the last 33 in the MFI family. How different my life might have been had I never picked up those books.
When I was 14, there was a sitcom on TV which starred Tony Randall. It was called Love, Sidney and it was only on for 2 seasons. The opening and closing scene showed the 2 main characters, a father and young daughter running across Central Park. I credit this show with my love and fascination of New York City. It was this show which spurred me on to a summer missionary trip to NYC with a group called Teen World Outreach. It was this summer trip which put a God-given ache for the city in the deepest part of my heart which haunted me for 10 years, and eventually led to living there for another 10 years.
Sometimes the biggest changes in our lives happen in very small moments.
God can turn the whole course of our lives in a second. He's sovereign and He's amazing and He always acts in our best interest. He's never late, but He is crazy. He's crazy in love with us, is our biggest fan, and He believes in us way more than we believe in ourselves.
Your biggest next thing might be just around the corner. Don't stop believing.
